My girlfriend is engrossed with The Biggest Loser. Nope, I'm definitely not referring to myself. What I'm talking about is spelled very popular television show in which people compete to lose as much fat or weight as fast as possible. I don't think she missed a single episode. She loves to see the dramatic change in weight loss when the contestants make an appearance each week. She is so passionate about the show that she convinced me to watch it with her each week.
The show is quite entertaining actually. But from a weight loss standpoint, I am not impressed. The goal of the show is to lose weight as fast as possible. In order to do this, the contestants and gauge in some very extreme activities that are designed to cause rapid body weight reductions. Rapid weight loss sounds great doesn't it? Not so fast! That is not necessary the case. Here is why:
First of all, weight loss does not equal to fat loss. More often than not, the "weight" these people shed off are actually lean muscle tissue, water, and some body fat. The most unfortunate thing, it turns out that losing muscle actually costs us your body metabolism to beat less slowly, which makes losing body fat even more difficult than ever. For them it seems losing muscle is a means to an end but not for me (and I hope not for you!).
Through my research, I have actually found that the rapid reduction in body weight plays a significant role with regaining back the old weight, thus it's a long road but sure fire way to weight loss failure.
Not everyone wants to lose weight quickly, right? No. We don't want you to lose WEIGHT... we want you to lose FAT! And of course we want you to lose those FAT as quickly as possible, however this must be done with care. Without the correct method and backed up by science, you are doomed to regain whatever fat you might have managed to rid in the first place.
When someone carries the sound fat loss program right to the T., that person can expect to lose excess body fat at an astonishing rate while still maintaining the arm muscles. Maintaining muscles is essential to keeping your metabolic rate up. That is the must give prominent that loss is going to be possible. What impresses me is the ability to maintain your fat loss without losing your muscle. I don't care how much weight you can lose if you are going to gain them all back. I want to see your body changed forever!
So my advice to you is to pay attention to what the "successful maintainers" have done to achieve and maintain their goals. These are the people who have truly reached their dream and achieved real fat loss success.
The difference between big losers and successful maintainers:
First, successful maintainers and gauge in a routine of regular exercise. More specifically, maintainers perform daily exercise 30 minutes or more. The regime should consist of resistance training and cardiovascular training. Most big losers scratch that most "big losers" simply fondle extreme fad diets omitting the need for physical activities. And on rare occasions when exercise is part of their routine set, it usually consist of only aerobic workouts.
Another difference that separates the successful maintainers from the big losers is the way they monitor their calorie intake and body weight body fat percentage.
Unfortunately, counting calories has been known to be criticized by professional trainers and avoided by a weight loss techniques. Many weight loss "gurus" even claimed that it's too inconvenient to follow these recommendations.
Four Strategies to Ensure Fat Loss Success!
- Increase your total daily activity level. To do this, go play some soccer, do some gardening, clean your house. Exercise promotes weight loss, but more importantly, it's critical for weight maintenance.
